Recent disparaging comments about the LGBT community should make us all pause to consider some realities.
Opinions are simply that: Opinions. They are not facts or truths, and should never be elevated to that category, until and unless they are proven through scientific discovery.
Beliefs are not truths at all. Biblical “truths” only exist in the minds of individuals. They are, in fact, opinions (beliefs), and as such are not proven facts. In reality, we all see a variety of differing opinions/beliefs about the Bible every day in a variety of societal sectors.

To cherry-pick a verse from the Bible to illustrate one’s opinion totally ignores historical context and an understanding of the Bible as a guide for living.
It seems to me that asking questions about the meaning of biblical passages is much more productive than insisting one has “THE” truth.
I believe the reality we should talk about here is how we are going to treat people in the LGBT community, not what we believe, since our beliefs vary so much from one person to another.
And what does Jesus say (over and over again) about how to treat people? With loving kindness and understanding. Not with judgment and condemnation.
I’m grateful gays and lesbians are welcome in my church. I believe Jesus would welcome them as well.
