Betty DiModugno passed away on Jan. 10, 2015, some 31 days into her 99th year.
Born Bertha Ann Davis, she was one of eight children of William Edwin and Lena MacGreagor Davis. She lived most of her life in Waterbury, Conn. before moving to Fountain Hills in 2003.
Betty was the wife of Harry DiModugno (deceased). She is survived by her daughters, Bette Lynn West (Paul) of Woodbury, Conn. and Barbara Joan Cipolaro (Hank) of Fountain Hills; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Betty graduated from Wilby High School, Waterbury, Conn., with secretarial skills that served her well throughout her life.
An active member of All Soul’s/St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Waterbury, Betty served on the Vestry, Altar Guild and Ladies Guild and the Board of Directors of the Waterbury Day Nursery.
Betty was also a beloved and well respected Girl Scout leader for over two decades. She enjoyed a long professional relationship as secretary to a psychiatrist.
Betty’s hobbies included playing bridge, golf, bowling, painting and completing the daily crossword puzzle. She loved to read and travel and would say that she was lucky to have done just about everything she wanted to do in her life.
When Betty moved to Fountain View Village at age 87, she sharpened her card playing skills and became a fearless pinochle player.
She loved FVV and was blessed with wonderful neighbors and friends who enriched her life on a daily basis. One of Betty’s favorite sayings was “Carpe Diem,” which she took literally for as long as her health allowed.
The family would like to thank Allegiant Hospice, Mesa, for their loving care and support, as well as Archstone Care Center, Chandler, where Betty spent her final days.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. at Fountain View Village Independent Living Chapel. An open house at the home of Hank and Barbara Cipolaro will follow the service. Friends are welcome to come celebrate Betty’s life. Carpe Diem!
