Better or worse?

Ever notice the great difficulty with which our elected officials have in solving the problems of our nation?

What seems to be a straightforward proposition gets portrayed as next to impossible to solve. I’ve had this alarming thought that, for some years now, we haven’t had a genuine statesman or hero from either party. Are you feeling a leadership void?

I’ve seen elected officials doing whatever is expedient to get re-elected, but little evidence that maintaining our founding documents and the will of the people is a priority. It’s scary how officials have one main focus and that is the preservation of their positions and political party.

Has money replaced “us” as the most important force in government?

Today’s three branches of governance hold control of our liberties, behavior, future and rights while evoking laws inapplicable to themselves. Even the oath of office has been forsaken. Ever have the impression that “we the people” are not being honestly represented and our officials cannot be trusted?

John Adams: “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concentrating measures in opposition of each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under the constitution.”

I often feel that elected officials attach an attitude of privilege and not service to their office. They seem to give themselves high self-esteem and relegate such unimportant things as humanity, honesty and morality to others. Are your officials better than you?

It’s painful to watch politicians use their talents to corrupt themselves and the system they have pledged to uphold. Think we’re witnessing the birth of a new “American Criminal Class?”

Is our government getting better or worse?
