The offices of governor and secretary of state are the two top elected positions in Arizona. Several candidates are vying for the Republican nomination in the Aug. 26 primary election.

Many of them will be in Fountain Hills on the evening of Tuesday, May 20, and June 17 at the next monthly meetings of Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party.

Our guests this month, on May 20, will include two candidates for secretary of state, Wil Cardon and Rep. Justin Pierce (another candidate, Senator Michele Reagan, is unable to join us that evening). Not ignoring local issues, our Mayor Linda Kavanagh will also be there to present an update on the town budget and other important topics.

Looking ahead to Tuesday evening, June 17, we will be hosting a forum for several gubernatorial candidates, so mark your calendars for another chance to practice your role as a concerned and committed citizen.

Both of these events, May 20 and June 17, offer great opportunities for you to meet the candidates, ask questions, have one-on-one contact with the people who may be leading Arizona government, and gain the knowledge to help you become an informed voter.

In keeping with our tradition of providing a local, convenient venue for you to meet and evaluate the candidates, Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party will meet on Tuesday, May 20, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Fountain Hills School District Learning Center at Palisades and Golden Eagle boulevards. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for pre-meeting conversation.

Responsible government requires that we get motivated, involved and educated. Please join your neighbors, bring a friend, bring a teen, bring your questions. Admission is free but donations to offset expenses are gratefully accepted and appreciated. We hope to see you there!
