Ironwood
The Falcons kicked last week off with a 6-3 win over Ironwood on March 10.
Mitchell Woltkamp pitched just shy of six innings, striking out two, giving up five hits and one earned run along the way. Tiger Horikawa came in to close.
“They didn’t score until the sixth,” Briguglio said.
“That was on a couple of errors, so Mitchell had done a nice job.”
At the plate, Horikawa had a hit, an RBI and a run while Teo Vargas added two hits including a double, a run and an RBI.
Bryce Andrashie had a hit, an RBI and a run while Zeb Hunteman added a double, a run and an RBI.
The Falcons scored four in the fourth and finished out with two in the seventh.
“It was more of a good old-fashioned baseball game,” Briguglio said.
“We only had seven hits, but we scored six runs. We stole five out of five bases, too, so there was a lot of good execution and one big inning.”
Snowflake
“Friday, we had a hiccup against Snowflake and we lost 2-0,” Briguglio said.
“Their pitcher threw a one-hitter, which was a double by Tiger Horikawa in the fourth inning. The kid had a great game. He struck out six and we hit a lot of balls on the button that, 10 feet either direction would have been a triple.”
Briguglio said it was a solid pitcher’s duel and, due to one critical error in the sixth, resulted in a loss for the Falcons. Matt Woltkamp pitched his first game of the season, striking out nine in six innings. Kyle Tolis came in to finish the final inning.
“They scored two runs on one error and that cost us the game,” Briguglio said.
“It was a playoff type of atmosphere. The team that makes the mistake loses, and that’s what happened.
