It was a busy week full of fast games for the high school baseball team as the local boys beat Horizon, Central and Sequoia Charter, all in run-rule shortened five-inning games.

With only a couple of weeks left in the regular season, the Falcons are set to take on another three opponents this week, beginning this past Tuesday with a home game against Tempe Prep.

The local squad is on the road today, April 16, for a 4 p.m. game against Valley Christian. Play continues at home tomorrow, April 17, with another 4 p.m. game, this time against Estrella Foothills.

After that, the Fountain Hills squad will have a short break, not returning to the field again until next Wednesday, April 23, when they head to Scottsdale Christian for a game at 4 p.m.

Horizon Honors

The Falcons began their week of blowouts against Horizon Honors last Tuesday, going on to win by a big 21-0 in five innings of play.

Andy Szwiec pitched for the full game, giving up just one hit and striking out five along the way.

As demonstrated by the final score, the Falcons also had a strong showing at the plate.

Paul Bryniarski got the ball rolling with three hits, including a triple, three runs and two RBIs. Andrew Bryniarski had two hits on the day, including a triple, a homer, three runs and five RBIs.

Devin Foyle had three hits, four runs and two RBIs while Nick Wojtysiak put in four hits, a homer, three runs and another five RBIs.

Cole Miles had two hits including a triple and three RBIs while Bryce Andrashie added two hits and three RBIs.

“We had 20 hits total, 12 of which were extra base hits,” said head coach Mike Briguglio.

“That’s good, disciplined at-bats, and we’re really driving the ball.”

Central

Pumping the brakes ever so slightly on the offensive side of the ball, the Falcons’ next game was a 10-0 affair against Central High School, hosted out of the local field and once again ending in just five innings.

“Devin Foyle pitched the entire game and earned his second perfect game of the year,” Briguglio added.

“He struck out eight along the way. That’s incredible for high school baseball. No hits, no errors, it was a perfect game.”

At the plate, Cory Kukkola led the way with three hits, two runs and an RBI while Paul Bryniarski had a triple and an RBI.

Andrew Bryniarski had another homerun, two doubles and four RBIs while Nick Wojtysiak added a double and two RBIs. Johnny Rodakis also had two hits and an RBI.

“That’s our first time playing Central,” Briguglio said.

“There were no errors on their part, we just had timely, strong hitting to earn some runs.”

Sequoia

The Falcons finished off the week at home with a big 33-2 win over Sequoia Charter Friday, April 11. This third five-inning game on the week saw the Falcons besting their school record for hits in a single game by 10.

Matt Woltkamp pitched this outing, giving up just three hits, no earned runs and striking out 10 along the way.

Paul Bryniarski got the crowd cheering with a grand slam and seven RBIs while Andrew Bryniarski had six hits (going for the cycle), including a three RBIs and a homer. This was Andrew’s sixth home run in the past four games.

Devin Foyle had four hits with four runs and three RBIs while Rodakis put in four hits and four runs. Cody Dunham managed three hits and two runs and Kukkola added two hits, five runs and three RBIs.

“It was just a hit parade,” Briguglio added.

“We’re really swinging the bats well. We started off the year a bit slow offensively, but we’re really gelling now and want to keep that momentum going.”
