Barbara Riehl passed away on April 25, 2018 at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale. She was born Barbara Cook on Oct. 23, 1927 in Toronto to parents William G. and E. Lucille Cook.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, William A. (Bill) Cook (Toronto) and son, Robert W. (Bob) Gray (Chesterton, Ind.). She is survived by her husband, Gordon Riehl; her daughters, Deborah and Susan Gray; four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Barbara worked in the executive offices of Household Finance Corporation (Chicago) and in the Toronto offices of Deloitte Haskins and Sells.
Barbara and Gordon moved to Arizona in 1990, residing in both Prescott and Fountain Hills until the past few years when they made Fountain Hills their full-time residence. She volunteered at Mayo Clinic and the Boys & Girls Club, both in Scottsdale.
In her youth, Barbara enjoyed ballet and speed skating. Her adult hobbies and interests included sailing the Great Lakes and Ontario’s waterways with Gordon on their cruiser, “Moonbeam.” She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, “classic” movies, and theatre; her favorite was “Cats,” which she saw in Toronto, New York and London. She also loved animals and was a donor to several animal charities.
Barbara and Gordon traveled extensively, having been to every continent except Africa.
Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley Eckstein Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.
