Back the Badge

What a wonderful turnout to pay tribute to our police officers, firefighters and all other first responders.

During this challenging, dangerous period, caring people want to express appreciation. Turning our iconic fountain brilliant blue in their honor was more than spectacular, it sent a dramatic message that we back the badge, back the blue and support you.

We graciously thank everyone who played even the smallest part. So many thoughtful individuals and business owners donated time, energy and money to help defray the cost. Our hearts overflow with gratitude.

A special thank you to Town Manager Grady Miller, Recreation Supervisor Rachael Goodwin, and members of Town Council/staff, as well as our quest speakers.

To Mayor Linda Kavanagh, wife of retired port authority police officer Senator John Kavanagh, who knows first-hand the sacrifices, a special thank you. She Proclaimed Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 Back the Badge Day. We hope that with the residents’ support we can make this an annual tribute.

Last but not least, to the families of all first responders who share in the sacrifice by their loved ones as they set about each day to protect us, we honor and thank you. God Bless them all.

In closing, everyone who wears the badge knows the burdens that come with the job; the long hours and stress; the knowledge that at any moment could be life or death.

America’s great Mayor Guliani said it best, “We know the risk you are taking and we say thank you to every law enforcement officer who is protecting us…Black, white, Latino…of every race, every color, every creed, every sexual orientation. When they come to save your life, they don’t ask if you are black or white. They just come to save you.” And that is what was honored this past Saturday.
