Ask a teacher

Prop 123, intended to settle the legislature’s failure to act on the original voter-mandate (Prop 301, passed in the general election, November of 2000), or subsequent court ordered compliance, is up for a vote.

Mail-in ballots will be distributed this week and the actual voting date is May 17. As you well know, it’s always wise to inform yourself about an issue before you vote, and for this particular issue, I suggest an age-old source of information: Ask a Teacher.

There is much contention about Prop 123 and teachers are at the epicenter of the turmoil, so they have unique insight into the impact of this settlement. The sentiments are mixed, so seek out teachers you trust and perhaps take their perspective into consideration as you vote.

I am a teacher and I’ve changed my mind several times, but I've made my decision and I will be voting with my conscience.
