Almost nine years later, she said she will leave. The gallery will remain in existence.

“The gallery has been an asset to the town for many years and will continue to be a great place to buy art and unique gift items,” said Yates.

With more time, Yates said she will commit more time to help the expansion of downtown. She has promoted the growth of the town since coming to town 24 years ago.

She served on the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce board for two terms and chair for one year. She was a fou7nder of the Downtown Improvement Committee and followed through several activities with artist Paul Kolwaite and town employee Tom Ward.

She participated in several committees over the years on making the town a destination.

Yates believes that the Art on the Avenue events that she organized has brought visitors to town.

“I am very proud of this accomplishment. Folks from all over the Valley come for the day and love bringing their family and friends to experience Fountain Hills.”

She started the weekly event to create foot traffic for downtown. Thursdays are now the best sales day for many Avenue businesses, she said.

The event has expanded to 75 artists who rotate weekly from late October through April.

Yates will continue to creating her jewelry and sell it Thursdays at her event and in On The Edge Gallery, Fifth Avenue, Scottsdale.

She will also participate in the two Chamber annual arts festivals and trunk shows throughout the state. She also teaches workshops.
