John Kavanagh’s response to candidates having campaign signs stolen was quite ironic -- saying it was possibly “influencing the outcome of an election.”
Since when has he been concerned about questionable tactics regarding an election or voters’ rights? As far back as when he was on the Town Council, he attacked a council candidate with lies and innuendo on Republican letterhead. Ignoring voters’ rights while on the council, he spearheaded the secret (likely illegal) meeting to take over the voter-elected Fire District, losing millions in state tax money.
His 2008 campaign for the House was so dirty that The Arizona Republic gave him a sarcastic award -- something like “Gutter Campaign Award.”

During his time in the House, he ignored voters’ wishes -- a couple of the worst are ignoring the voter mandate to increase education funding by at least the inflation rate, and trying to undo the legalization of medical marijuana. Education funding was cut (while increasing funding to the private prison industry). The courts ruled that the state must pay schools retroactively for not following the voter mandate. Kavanagh’s disregard for a voter mandate has created a huge financial liability for the state.
With medical marijuana, Kavanagh has said that voters didn’t really understand what they voted for and wants the law repealed -- insulting every voter who supports medical marijuana. He is saying that we are too stupid to know what we’re doing. Kavanagh (and his mayor wife) seem obsessed with keeping any marijuana illegal.
He also tried to sneak a $900,000 “gift” to his prison owner cronies at the last minute in the budget process. His Republican colleagues were outraged and removed it.
Republicans, vote for Jeff Schwartz in the primary. Democrats, vote for Paula Pennypacker. Either one of them would be a huge improvement over John Kavanagh!
