Congressman Matt Salmon sent me an email announcing his vote to defund Planned Parenthood. “Are you out of your mind?” was my reply.

I read about unqualified people performing abortions on teens and women who were desperate to end an unwanted pregnancy. “Ladies, are you out of your minds?” was my response.

Israel, Germany and Japan are making progress with stem cell research. The USA is lagging behind medical science because of limited points of view of our legislators. “Are you out of your minds?” is my response.

So many good medical practices serve women, sex and family planning programs are being taught, bio-identical hormones are being developed, prolotherapy treatments and rape counseling is being provided, why not devote our political and legislative energies to cleaning up the media?

What good influence is derived from explicit sex and extreme, explosive violence in the media? What about insensitive and irresponsible reporting on TV news programs? Why are senior citizens abused, scammed and shown so much disrespect when we should have advanced in our civility, protection and respect for the aging population?

There are some simple analogies to which I adhere. Why smoke anything when fresh air and oxygen are required for good physical and mental health? Why seek hallucinatory drugs when we only use a small part of our brains already? Why can’t we give grieving people a couple of days to seek equilibrium before news people bombard them with sensational questions?

Alcoholism and drug addiction are catalysts for irresponsible behavior. Guns are weapons for senseless destructive, violent behavior. Vehicles are weapons under the control of irresponsible people. Driverless cars are enigmas to be explored. Technology unites the world and can work unthinkable harm as well. Why not use our knowledge for reasonable solutions? To the people who panic over every news report, I respond, “Are you out of your minds?”
