Well, we’re back from our annual visit with the grandkids in New Jersey.
This year we took a 10-day trip, coinciding it with our birthdays. Diane’s was on July 16th and mine was on the 18th. We were treated with cards made by three of four of daughter Tammy’s children. Little Brandon is now seven, Brody is six, Brylee is four and Brielle is 17 months.
Tammy and her husband, Brandon, treated me to a most memorable birthday present, an evening at Yankee Stadium in the Legends Suite.

An evening at Yankee Stadium

Well, we’re back from our annual visit with the grandkids in New Jersey.
This year we took a 10-day trip, coinciding it with our birthdays. Diane’s was on July 16th and mine was on the 18th. We were treated with cards made by three of four of daughter Tammy’s children. Little Brandon is now seven, Brody is six, Brylee is four and Brielle is 17 months.
Tammy and her husband, Brandon, treated me to a most memorable birthday present, an evening at Yankee Stadium in the Legends Suite.
They got the tickets through the company he works for. Advertised as “Where Luxury and Legends Unite,” it lives up to billing. This was my first time to visit the new Yankee Stadium. I had gone to the old stadium three or four times in the past for games.
The Legends Suite featured fine dining at the Legends Suites Club with performance-cooking stations (that is what the brochure calls them). I don’t know if it is the same offerings every night or if it’s different for a day game versus a night game, but there was an amazing amount of food available.
There was a seafood station with giant king crab legs, lobster tails, shrimp, salmon, halibut and roasted vegetables, a carving station with giant pork chops, New York strip steaks, beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin and roasted red-skin potatoes, a Famous Dave’s barbecue station with ribs, pulled pork and delicious beans, a sushi station with a large variety of choices, a salad station, an Italian station with a variety of pastas, sausages, meatballs, sauces, peppers and lasagna. A hot dog station with a variety of toppings and, of course, the dessert station with a variety of cookies, cheese cakes, cupcakes and multi-layered cakes with everything from red velvet to German chocolate. Then, when you went from the dining room to the seating area outside, you passed by a wall of candy and snacks. I took only a large lollipop with a Yankee logo on it that I will keep as a souvenir.
We had to laugh when the bag of Crackerjacks Tammy took had an Arizona Diamondbacks sticker inside as the prize.
And another coincidence was the guy sitting in front of us had just returned from Phoenix to watch a series between the Diamondbacks and the New York Mets the weekend before.
And to top it off you could order food from a menu to your seats all included.
Originally, we had planned on going Sunday afternoon with the seats being behind home plate, but someone else had previously requested use of those tickets.
It turned out to be another stroke of good luck for us. Sunday was the hottest day of the year so far in New York City. It was 97 degrees with high humidity.
We went to the Friday night game, sat in the second row just beyond third base and enjoyed the game with a temperature in the high 70s.
We also made it onto the Jumbotron, the big screen TV, when the same guy who had gone to Phoenix the weekend before, grabbed a foul ball. In all the years I’ve been a Diamondbacks season ticketholder (Since the first game in 1998), I have never been on the Jumbotron at Chase Field. Not in a random camera shot, not in a Kiss Cam shot, nothing.
But, here I was in the new Yankee Stadium for the first time and I get on the big screen.
As former Yankee announcer Mel Allen would say, “How about that?!”
To sum it up, how about the entire evening? Thanks, Tammy and Brandon.
