Jon Davies’ letter last week suggesting the town “caters” to senior citizens and shortchanges young people and families was way off the mark.
Hasn’t Mr. Davies walked through our parks and seen all the youth sports teams playing baseball, football and soccer? Doesn’t he know about our splash park? Isn’t he aware that the town partners with the Boys and Girls Club for youth programs? Didn’t he ever peek into the Community Center and see families bonding and having a great time at events like Breakfast with Santa?
Surely Mr. Davies must be aware of some of Fountain Hills’ signature family events, such as the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Turkey Trot, 4th of July Fireworks, Kite Festival, Movies in the Park, Ballet Under the Stars, Halloween in the Hills, Oktoberfest, Stroll in the Glow, Slide the City’s giant waterslide and the Eggstravaganza with Hoppy Bunny?

Once again Fountain Hills has won the Playful City USA Award for the fifth time!
Fountain Hills does have events just for seniors, but we also have lots of events just for families with kids. But best of all, most of the events are geared for and attended by everyone, which is why Fountain Hills is the great community that it is.
All of this has been done on a shoestring budget with the town often partnering with the business community, service organizations, schools, churches, and the Chamber of Commerce with the help of our wonderful volunteers.
Our downtown will finally be developed into a vibrant environment with stores on the Avenue and apartments perfect for families and young entrepreneurs. Adero Canyon will be completed, which will give us our long-awaited trailhead and access to our Preserve for hiking and biking.
Please Mr. Davies, look around before you criticize our great hometown community and come join in the fun!
