As a former teacher I enthusiastically recommend a “yes-yes” vote on the upcoming mail ballot election on two Fountain Hills school issues, namely the override for operations and maintenance and the capital improvement bond.
I have worked as a mentor in the Fountain Hills schools and have observed first-hand how hard the teachers work over and above what’s required. Failure to pass this override will jeopardize the district’s ability to adequately compensate the teachers and keep class sizes down to a workable number. A vote for the override will not result in an increased tax bill.

Just as important, the teachers and kids need to work in facilities and an environment that fosters learning. To that end, properly working air conditioning, lighting, educational materials, technology and playground equipment are very important.
To accomplish this, the schools need funds to replace and improve facilities. The proposed capital bond fulfills this need by producing $8 million over several years. The bond only increases your tax bill by $32 a year assuming the assessed value of your house is $250,000.
I plan to vote yes on both issues and hope you will do the same.
