A little of this and a new website, too!

Posted

Well, we haven’t reached 100 degrees in Fountain Hills yet. It hit the magical number in Phoenix on Sunday, April 28, but the temperature only managed to reach 99 degrees on Monday the 29th for the warmest day so far this year here.

Last year, the first 100 degree day in Fountain Hills was on April 21.

The earliest it ever reached 100 was on March 26, 1989.

By the time the paper gets out, we’ll be in the midst of a mid-80-degree run of temperatures. The next day that we will be approaching the 100 degree mark will be next Tuesday.

Check out our new website. We were one of the first weekly newspapers to go on-line back in 1995.

We liked what we did but it was time for a change.

Last year we began researching changes in our website to reach out to different generations with what we do best – report the news and information of what’s happening in Fountain Hills and surrounding areas.

We went with a company called Town News, which has an affiliation of some 1500 newspapers and shoppers that it works with. They worked with Duke Kirkendoll of our staff in designing the new website.

What they came up with is a site that is easy to navigate and is iPad and tablet compatible.

Also redesigned is the Let’s Go website. Be sure to read the front page story in this week’s edition and Editor Mike Scharnow’s column for more on our new website.

The River of Time Museum and the Fountain Hills Art League are collaborating to create a new exhibit venue at the museum.

Beginning today, the League’s artists will be displaying their work on a rotating basis in the Museum’s Clinton M. Pattea Gallery.

The public is invited to attend today’s 5 p.m. opening, which will include a ribbon cutting ceremony. All displayed art will be available for purchase.

Art for sale will be purchased through the museum’s River Bank store. Store manager Gerry Colbert said the museum and store can accept artwork on consignment from any artist whether or not they are a member of the art league.

The new use of the Pattea Gallery should be beneficial to the museum and artists alike.

Speaking of the museum, the last dinner meeting of the season of the Fountain Hills and Lower Verde Valley Historical Society is next Wednesday night, May 15.

Topic for the evening will be the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow, its Turquoise Room restaurant and The Harvey Girls.

Reservations must be made by Sunday, May 12, by telephoning Jean Linzer, 837-0762.

In closing his week, I want to wish all of you mothers, and one in particular, my mom, a Happy Mothers Day.

I hope you are all treated extra special on that day.
