A little of this and a little of that

The event may be weeks away (August 10), but it’s time to start collecting auction items for the annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction Fundraiser.

Items are needed for both the live and silent auctions. They can be merchandise, services and gift certificates from businesses, restaurants, and resorts.

The event may be weeks away (August 10), but it’s time to start collecting auction items for the annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction Fundraiser.

Items are needed for both the live and silent auctions. They can be merchandise, services and gift certificates from businesses, restaurants, and resorts.

Or private individuals can donate items also. If you have items in your garage or storage unit that are in good condition, then consider donating them to the museum for the auction. They could be paintings or other artwork, exercise equipment, memorabilia, lamps or furniture. Since the museum is a non-profit, donations of auction items are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.

Anyone who wishes to donate items or services may drop them off at the River of Time Museum, 12901 N. La Montana Drive, on Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 pm.

Or you can contact Debbie Skehen at 480-816-4186.

This will make you feel old.

Daughter Holly turned 40 yesterday (June 18). But she looked as good or better than the other dancers (my opinion) on the broadcast of the Tribute to Mel Brooks by the American Film Institute this past Saturday night. Several were half her age.

And she’s had two children and does not dance any more.

She said the girls did a lot more dancing that was edited out of the broadcast for timing purposes. She was also in a scene from the movie “The Producers,” but she was very small on the screen and was unrecognizable to most people.

She and husband Bruce had a good time at the after-show party during which she got to talk with many of the celebrities that appeared on the show.

It was a real shock when I came to work on Monday to learn of the passing of Fire Chief Scott LaGreca this past weekend. He was a true professional in every sense of the word and a real nice guy besides. We just had the story in last week’s paper that he was retiring.

It’s officially monsoon season.

Last year the Weather Service changed its designation of the start of the season from the previous method of three consecutive days of a dew point reading of 55 degrees or more to a regular season starting June 15 and ending Sept. 30.

There are no storms in the forecast for the next two weeks, but they had a storm in Tucson on Saturday, the first day of the season.
