A little of this and a little of that

Diane and I made a quick run up to Las Vegas last week to see our new grandson, Camden Yenglin.
As you know, he was born with a congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot, or TOF.
Diane was there for his birth on February 18. This was my first visit. He is in Sunrise Children’s Hospital.
When I first saw him, I thought, “He looks like a normal baby.” He had good color. Other than the feeding tube coming out of his nose, he appeared to be healthy and he looked comfy all wrapped up in his blanket.
His parents, Toni and Jason, call him “the little burrito” because of the way he is wrapped.
He underwent the first procedure the week before we got there which was placing a stent in his heart.
His open heart surgery will be in four months to fully repair the defects. Meanwhile he needs to build up his strength. Because of his heart problems he is exhausted after a feeding session. As a result, he sleeps a lot.
He needs to be able to drink two ounces of milk every three hours for 48 hours before he can go home. Heart babies don’t feed as well as healthy newborns.

Well, as I’ve said before, March is a great month for me. Spring training winds up in a week or so and March Madness, the college basketball tourney, begins this week.
As we’ve done for at least 15 years, my friend and former employee, Charlie Vascellaro, went to our annual Spring Training game at Scottsdale Stadium. We saw the Diamondbacks play the San Francisco Giants.
He resides in Baltimore and makes his living by writing baseball and travel stories for a variety of publications including the Let’s Go, in which he annually has a Spring Training preview. He also had a story in the Giants’ and Cubs’ programs this spring.
As for the NCAA basketball tournament, it will be even more interesting to me with the ASU Sun Devils making the tournament as the Number 10 seed in the Midwest Region. They play the University of Texas in the opening round. The University of Arizona got the top seed in the West Region.

That was some turnout for the second annual WisconsinFest celebration at the Community Center on Saturday.
The event was a fund-raiser for the River of Time Museum. It also was held to create more awareness for the museum.
We don’t have any final figures in, but the brats were really popular.
Over 400 were sold in the first 20 minutes, and between 1200 and 1400 were sold throughout the day.

The 11th annual Lower Verde River Valley Hall of Fame Induction Dinner is tonight at the Community Center. Six Fountain Hills residents and one each from Tonto Verde and Fort McDowell will be inducted.
The Fountain Hills Ministerial Alliance will be honored also. They are the fifth recipients of the Legacy Award.
The evening begins at 7 p.m. with dinner preceded by a happy hour at 6 p.m.
