The San Diego A-List has announced its list of winners in a variety of categories.

And heading up the wedding photographer section is none other than my daughter, Holly.

She told me she’s very excited about the news. She began her photography business only a few years ago. Now she’s ranked Number One in the San Diego area.

You can see samples of her work at Hollyirelandphotography.com.

New Jersey Granddaughter Brylee Labanca had some high flying visitors at her school last week.

Retired astronauts Scott and Mark Kelly along with Mark’s wife, former Arizona Congressman Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords, were the school’s special guests on Thursday May 19.

The occasion was the renaming of the school in honor of the astronauts. The school is located in West Orange, N.J., about 15 miles west of New York City.

During their joint remarks made on the front steps of the school, Mark Kelly joked that he wasn’t always a good student and wasn’t even that good of a pilot when he began his training.

His instructor, after his first landing on an aircraft carrier, said, “You’re not very good at this. Are you sure this career is for you?”

The Kellys grew up in West Orange and attended public schools. Their parents were both on the town’s police force and their mother was the town’s first female officer.

The two recent attacks on humans by javelinas were the first that I recall in the more than 40 years we have been producing the newspaper.

They have been a common sight over the years in my neighborhood along the Desert Canyon Golf Course.

They’ve eaten my prickly pear plants in the front yard on more than one occasion.

But, we’ve run enough stories over the years that have warned about feeding wild animals. It’s a no-no.

That is being targeted as the main cause of the two recent attacks.

Watch The Times for additional stories on the javelina attacks.

I attended the opening sessions of the Sister Cities State Convention on Saturday morning.

It was held here for the

second year.

Sharon Morgan served as emcee after Fountain Hills Sister Cities President Jackie Miles was unable to handle those responsibilities since her husband, Jerry, was in the hospital being treated for pneumonia.

I was the first person introduced since I initiated the Sister Cities program in Fountain Hills. Kasterlee, Belgium, was our first Sister City and it was no easy task. The Belgians would make good Missourians, (the Show Me state.) I had to show them it would be worth their while to become a Sister City with Fountain Hills. Jerry Miles was the Fountain Hills mayor at that time. He and Jackie along with Vice Mayor Marianne Wiggishoff and her husband, Cyril, were among those that accompanied me nn our exploratory trip to Kasterlee.

The trip had a good outcome and we were on our way.
