Sunday, Sept. 11, was the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as a plane crashed near Shanksville, Pa. Among the thousands who perished were hundreds of firefighters and law enforcement working to save lives in the aftermath of the attacks. Visiting from the New York area, Marilyn Higgins captured this image of an impromptu display set up at the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial on Patriot’s Day to commemorate the event and those who lost their lives in the attacks.
