This summer, children are invited to join in the ultimate summer experience at 7-5-3 Academy in Fountain Hills, which has developed a weekly Summer Warrior Course program with a new topic and theme each week.
Each weekly course is designed to keep kids engaged, active and learning in a positive and encouraging atmosphere, according to a press release.
In addition to the weekly theme, other activities and topics include karate, arts and crafts, story creation, science projects, basic Japanese language, martial arts weapon training (swords, indoor archery, ninja stars) and more.
Weekly themes
The 7-5-3 Academy Summer Warrior Course is presented weekly with focused themes for what organizers say will be an unforgettable summer experience. All weekly courses are $360 unless noted.
Week one; May 28-31 - Wilderness Survival
In this week, youth will learn about survival in the wilderness from navigation, map reading, using a compass, making a shelter, first aid and more.
This information is a must for modern adventurers. Due to the holiday Monday, May 27, this week is $288 due to only four days of class and the cost has been prorated as such.
Week two: June 3-7 - Movie Magic Animation
Students will explore the excitement of creating a movie using stop-motion animation. Youth are provided with different props to plan, shoot and edit their own stop motion animation short movie.
Youth will work as part of a team and be guided through the entire process of stop-motion animation. On the final day, the groups will present their created movie and leave with a digital copy for themselves.
Week three: June 10-14 - Around the World in Five Days
Students will explore ways to journey around the world and learn about different cultures and people, animals, foods, famous archaeological sites and places of mystery and wonder.
Each day is centered on a new continent. The plane departs from 7-5-3 Academy and journeys to destinations in North America, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia before returning home.
Week four: June 17-21 - Detective Week
In this week, youth will learn the art of being a detective. Topics will include evidence collection, questioning suspects, note taking and critical thinking to solve a mystery destined for a bestselling book, “Murder on the Samurai Express.”
Week five: June 24 -28 - Dinosaurs
Students will travel back in time to look at the dinosaurs and their current living descendants.
Youth will learn about paleontology, discover fossils, use imagination to create the ultimate dinosaur and explore different types of today’s living dinosaurs. After this week, looking at rocks and animals will never be the same again.
Week six: July 1-5 - Secret Agent
During Secret Agent week, the youth will go back in time to the samurai-era for a journey as a secret samurai on a mission to infiltrate the enemy castle and recover the stolen scroll of power.
The mission, should they choose to accept, is to learn to become a samurai spy with a mission to infiltrate the enemy stronghold, navigate dangerous lands and avoid confrontation when needed. Students must be ready to deliver swift justice to recover the stolen Sword of Destiny.
Week seven: July 8 to 12 - Jedi Academy
The 7-5-3 Jedi Academy will open its doors for one week of training to use lightsabers and experience the power of balance while learning sword techniques and movements.
Students will explore the techniques and movements of the Jedi and how to win against the dark side.
Week eight: July 15 to 19 - Lost In Space
There is no better time to get lost (and found) in space. 7-5-3 Academy will explore space from science to science fiction.
Youth will explore the planets and other solar systems and gain knowledge of the stars. Students will jump in a rocket ship ready to explore the universe.
Week nine: July 22-26 - Samurai Olympics
The next Olympics start this July in Paris but 7-5-3 Academy will host its own Warrior Olympics this summer with sporting events centered around the martial arts of the samurai.
All events are practiced before final medal round competitions on the last day. Most importantly, the youth will have fun, learn something new with samurai martial arts, develop a skill, work as a team, do their individual best and learn sportsmanship.
A mix of fun, martial arts and learning
The Summer Warrior Course is designed to be more than a traditional martial arts program or a summer school class. 7-5-3 Academy has developed a blend of fun, education and martial arts into the course, according to organizers.
