Things seem to be starting to come together for the Fountain Hills High School Boys Basketball after a solid performance in last week’s game.

Last Tuesday, Jan. 22, the Falcons hosted American Leadership Academy Gilbert and won 61-45.

This week wraps up the regular season with two games for the boys basketball team. The first game was yesterday, Jan. 29, against Gilbert Christian.

The second game is tomorrow, Jan. 31, against Coronado starting at 7 p.m. The game will be at home and also act as Senior Night for the team.

The Falcons have struggled this season with setting the tone at the beginning of their games but that wasn’t the case last Tuesday.

“I told the guys to come out and play hard, and they definitely did that,” coach Jeff Bonner said. “They are starting to believe in each other as well as themselves. It is paying dividends.”

Despite looking good and being in control most of the game, Bonner still wants his team to take a few things away from the game.

“We got to get better at executing,” Bonner said. “We still need to get better at communicating. We are a small team so our execution and our communication have to be perfect to win games, especially in close games.”

However, even with those small critiques, Bonner was immensely proud of how his team played defense in the game.

“What I was most impressed with was their defense intensity,” Bonner said. “We haven’t played defense like that before, like we actually wanted to play it. I saw each player looking for the best thing they could do in the moment to help our team get the ball back.”
