Shame

Shame on you, Mr. Kavanagh, for even contemplating and then following through on putting an ad in the Times to discredit, defame and assassinate the character of an outstanding, ethical Fountain Hills resident, Mrs. Ginny Dickey, who is running for mayor. The ad accuses Mrs. Dickey of the meanest untruths, too despicable to repeat here.

You are supposedly a pillar of our community, voted to represent all of us. You are to show us leadership, ethical values and be examples of integrity and honesty. Mr. Kavanagh even has the audacity to repeat his allegations without substantiations in a letter to The Times this past week!

Shame on The Times in accepting and publishing both the advertisement and the letter. I had the impression The Times had committed to not publish incriminating or character defamation letters. Noble ideals have been thrown out the window. A substantial sum for an ad was too juicy to turn down! This is how we win elections, mudslinging and demeaning candidates we do not agree with?

I thought, as many other readers do, according to letters to the editor in past weeks, that council and mayoral elections are to be non-partisan.

Let me reiterate: Mrs. Ginny Dickey is an outstanding candidate for mayor with an impeccable and ethical reputation, and a true leader. We can trust she will represent all of us and be a non-partisan mayor. She will take us out of the rut of spending frivolously.

Vote for Ginny Dickey and move beyond the ugliness that is permeating our small town.
