Contrast

Posted

The contrast between Cecil Yates and Ginny Dickey at the recent mayoral debate was stark. Cecil views all the problems through the eyes of his narrow expertise, real estate development. Building more will not solve our problems, but will change the population density and feeling of our community.

On the other hand, Ginny has a broad and varied background with the town’s government and interfacing organizations which include: eight years’ experience as a school board member, including two years as president and raised three boys in the school system; eight years’ experience as a Fountain Hills council member.

During her 35 years in Fountain Hills, she demonstrated leadership in working with residents, businesses and governmental organizations inside and outside of Fountain Hills. As a result of her work in the community, she has been a member of the Lower Verde Valley Hall of Fame since 2010. Volunteer activities include the Sunset Kiwanis, the Community Theater, school site councils and leadership for Fountain Hills’ State’s Centennial celebration.

Ginny not only has knowledge of our local government, but professional experience including the the Maricopa Association of Governments, the state legislature as a Senatorial staff, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Federal Department of Justice.

She boasts experience with Fountain Hills government needs and interfacing organizations, i.e. the town’s budget and staff, the Sanitary District, Fort McDowell, the NPOA and utilities (Cox, EPCOR and SRP).

The poor timing of Cecil’s resignation as council member means that the council will select his replacement. The timing of his resignation is disrespectful to the voters who are denied a choice for the council seat which he vacated.

In summary, Ginny has broad and deep experience and knowledge in the requirements for mayor, and a demonstrated concern for the voters of Fountain Hills.
