School board meets, Stock departs

The Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board held its last meeting of the year on Dec. 12, where members discussed upcoming field trips and bid farewell to Board President Edith Stock.

During the information and discussion portion of its meeting the board talked with Fountain Hills Middle School Principal James Carrick about two upcoming field trips.

The first field trip discussed was a spring break trip to Washington, D.C. The second trip was the yearly eighth grade trip to Camp Surf at the end of May.

In the action section of the meeting the board approved a Fountain Hills High School student government trip to the STUGO State Convention in Prescott from Jan. 24-26.

With this meeting also serving as Board President Edith Stock’s last, other members of the board and Superintendent Dr. Robert Allen expressed their appreciation for her service to FHUSD.

“(Stock) has served with distinction for four years,” Allen said. “Throughout her tenure she has attended multiple school events and her thoughtful commentary and witty humor during board meetings will be missed.”

Stock in turn expressed her happiness with her time on the board.

“This has just been an outstanding experience,” Stock said. “I have never been around greater teachers or administrators.”

The next board meeting is set for Jan. 9, 2019, where the board will elect new officers.
