Town preparing for anniversaries

The Town of Fountain Hills is nearing the celebration of two milestone events. The first, the 30th anniversary of incorporation, is on Dec. 5, 2019; the second is the 50th anniversary of the inaugural raising of the Fountain at Fountain Lake Park on Dec. 15, 2020.

These dates provide bookends for a year-long celebration, and a “30-50” plan is coming together led by Mary Ann Michaels and a group of volunteers. The town will co-sponsor the event.

Mayor Ginny Dickey said the town can look forward to a year of celebration much like the Arizona 2012 Centennial.

“By celebrating these two anniversaries, it allows residents, businesses, clubs and organizations, realtors, faith groups, the school district, and many others to join with the town through participation and sponsoring activities over the course of a year,” Dickey said.

“The 30-50 Anniversary is a great way to celebrate the history and achievements of our great town, Michaels said. “We envision many events that focus on how our community works together in support of the town, charitable and service organizations, our schools, and the many businesses that make Fountain Hills special.”

Anchored by many community organizations, this is an opportunity to show off what is best about Fountain Hills, either as an anniversary event, or in concert with the many events that happen each year in Fountain Hills, including the art fairs, the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Stroll in the Glow, Concours in the Hills, Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest and others.

For anyone interested in joining a committee of volunteers, organizational meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, at the Community Center.

Planning meetings will begin in early fall to formalize the plan, fundraising, and event coordination. Join other volunteers to help with this 30-50 anniversary celebration by contacting Mary Ann Michaels at 480-650-8241 or email maryannmichaels1@msn.com.
