The early years affect later life

OPINION — Whoever thought of adding “Pink and Blue” to “Red Ribbon” week? No one, of course. That is because this special week needs “Red” to make the warning stand out.

No one wants their child to live in a world of drugs of any kind. However, there is a new way to embellish this warning from a different perspective — early childhood. Parents can help their children right from the start to form the foundation needed to ward off many kinds of later pulls toward drugs.

Believe it or not, “self-esteem” leads the way, and there are many ways to start instilling that from birth. Most people today do not realize how much the early years impact later life. Interestingly enough, the earlier the years the more impactful they are.
