An intense monsoon storm moved through the Verde communities and McDowell Mountain Regional Park Saturday evening, uprooting many trees and causing other damage.
While Fountain Hills experienced some rain and high winds, coupled with many small lightning flashes, it appeared the bulk of wind-caused damaged occurred in the Verdes. Dozens of trees were likely uprooted and homes experienced roof leaks and other damage.
A full moon hike planned for 8 p.m. Saturday at McDowell Mountain Regional Park was cancelled due to the thunderstorm activity. Standing water was reported on McDowell Mountain Road between Fountain Hills and Rio Verde.
Flash flood warnings were issued by the National Weather Service Sunday, as another storm moved into the area and dumped periodic downpours on the Valley. Fountain Hills appeared to escape any flooding issues Sunday, as of 1:30 p.m., but the periodic rains were continuing with little wind.
