Meet Scott
Scott Tynes joined Independent Newsmedia, Inc., USA in January 2024. He started his career as a journalist in public affairs with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1987, providing coverage in articles and photos of the Marines training and conducting military operations, such as Operation Desert Storm/Shield and the Los Angeles riots. He left the Marine Corps in 1993  and became a reporter with the Lawrence County Press and, later, the Brookhaven Daily Leader, sharing his time with the Mississippi Army National Guard, where he later worked in the Joint Force Headquarters Public Affairs Office as an noncommissioned officer in charge. He retired in 2020 after several tours overseas in Afghanistan and returned home to Arizona.

Community: He is a lifetime member of the Army Public Affairs Association, where he was awarded the Order of St. Gabriel on his retirement, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Education: Scott graduated from the Combat Correspondent Course at the Defense Information School in 1987, where he returned throughout his career to complete the Editor’s Course and several social media management courses. He has attended the University of Southern Mississippi.

Random Fact: He keeps a small “zoo” at his house with two dogs, two cats, a bearded dragon, and four fish tanks, one with two aquatic turtles.

Hobbies: He enjoys games of all kinds and is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
