Holocaust survivor Dirk van Leenen will present “No Greater Love Has He” at the Fountain Hills Community Center Thursday, April 25, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. with a book signing to follow.

In a world that often grapples with the horrors of history, it becomes imperative to remember and reflect upon the darkest chapters of human civilization.

The Holocaust stands as a reminder of the consequences of unchecked hatred, bigotry, and discrimination. Six million Jews, along with millions of others, including Romani people, disabled individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, and political dissidents, were systematically targeted and exterminated by the Nazi regime during World War II.

Author and Mesa resident, van Leenen, will share his life story of growing up in World War II, the invasion of Holland and how history is repeating itself. He relives his father’s involvement in the “resistance,” how he was a decoy and the great escape from the last train to Bergen-Belsen.

Van Leenen is the author of three books: “The Americans are Coming,” “Resistance on a Bicycle” and “The Last Train to the Concentration Camp.” A book signing will follow his presentation at the Fountain Hills Community Center, 13001 N. La Montana Drive.

Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. The event is free for community center members and $5 for non-members. Call 480-816-5200 to register.

This program is sponsored by the Town of Fountain Hills Community Center.
