Avenue project on council agenda

Posted

The Town Council this week will hear proposed revisions to the planned Avenue of the Fountains improvement project so it can stay within budget.

The list of changes being presented to the council for discussion includes reduced fountain footprints for the east median plaza.

Picnic area footprints will be reduced and the number of tables cut back.

Benches for the art nodes will be eliminated.

The number of picnic tables for each of the two center plazas will be reduced from four to two.

Planters will be eliminated from the center plazas.

There will be more open turf for larger event tents.

Eight total shade canopies will be eliminated from picnic areas and center plazas.

Staff is also waiting for letters from utility companies stating they have “no conflict” with the project.

Design plans for SRP work to establish upgraded power service is also still being done.

The council agenda includes a $26,800 contract with SRP for design and construction of the new distribution system.

Development Services Director Paul Mood said if all the outstanding material is collected, the advertisement for bids will go out on Wednesday, May 1, with a pre-bid conference for contractors May 14 and bid opening on May 29.

The objective is to have the project complete by the end of October.

The Town Council will meet Thursday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
