Twile June Thompson

Posted

Twile June Thompson, 93, a longtime resident of Fountain Hills passed away at her home surrounded by her family on June 6, 2019.

She was born in Bellwood, Neb. on Dec. 2, 1925 to Jessie and Alvin Olson. She attended Hastings and Wesleyan College in Nebraska and she taught school in Dewitt, Neb. at the Capitol Beach Elementary School.

Twile will be best remembered as a fiercely independent, strong-willed individual who loved her family, (and donuts). She was very proud of her work with the Fountain Hills Women’s Club and served as an acting officer. During her time with the club, they helped raise $100,000 toward the Community Center and $25,000 toward the Fountain Hills library. Twile enjoyed golf and socializing with her many friends she made after moving to the desert.

In 1946 she married Homer H. Thompson and had four children. Twile and Homer resided for many years in Fremont, Neb., where their children were born and raised. Homer was active in the Shriner organization and Twile was a member of the Daughters of the Nile for many years. In addition to raising four children, Twile also played piano and taught piano lessons in her home for 25 years. She and her husband were big Nebraska Cornhusker fans and attended many home games through the years.

Twile is preceded in death by her husband Homer II and her son Homer III. She is survived by her son, Thomas Thompson and daughters, Gay Emry and Candice Evans and two sons-in laws, David Emry and Steve Evans. Twile’s legacy will live on through her seven grandchildren Darci, Jason, Trisha, Traci, Kiley, Tabatha and Colton and 11 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

A private family memorial service will be held graveside in Omaha, Neb. at the Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Twile’s memory to the Minneapolis Shriners Hospital.
