Sock drive needs support

McDowell Mountain Elementary School is currently in the middle of a charity sock drive for the homeless and the Falcon Leaders are out to spread the word about it.
As part of their December community service project the Falcon Leaders, a group of student representatives, are hoping to collect over 1,000 men’s and women’s socks to help the Shoebox Ministry reach its goal of collecting 40,000 socks for the homeless population.
The Falcon Leaders, along with making posters, have gone in front of their classes to talk to their peers about why it is important to donate something as simple as socks.
“I told them how this might be the only present that they receive,” Cash Broetsky said.
“I said that they need the socks so they can have warm feet,” Christina Josay added.
The Falcon Leaders agreed that this might be the most important point.
“I was camping outside once and I was so cold,” Brady Wince said. “Even with socks.”
The group has already collected close to 300 socks but is looking for help outside the MMES community to reach their 1,000 goal by Friday, Dec. 14.
