Trains at the Community Center for the holiday
Trains on display
Posted
There is still time to enjoy the holiday model trail display at the Fountain Hills Community Center.
The Fountain Hills and Four Peaks Rotary clubs and Rotary Interact Club youth are providing the volunteers who are working the trains for visitors. They were also involved in setting up the display for the season, and will participate in the take down.
The Rotarians are excited about the opportunity to participate in the holiday tradition and plan to continue if they see enough interest in the display from the community. Residents are encouraged to drop by and visit the display before the holidays end.
Volunteers from the Rotary clubs will be manning the controls weekdays through Friday, Dec. 21 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, Dec. 15 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Community Center will be closed for Christmas until Wednesday, Dec. 26 before the final three days for the trains. Operators will be on duty the final three days, through Friday, Dec. 28, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The trains and displays belong to Ken Burling, who owns a train shop in town and has been the one to operate the holiday setup for a decade until he decided to retire from the effort after last year.
He helped the Rotarians install the trains this year so they will know how to do it.
