Excitement soared to new heights at Fountain Hills during the Concours in the Hills, a Phoenix Children’s event.

The official opening of the event wrapped up with a check presentation to Phoenix Children’s for $314,615 With donations made throughout the day, the total was brought up to $330,228 and counting, which will go directly to children in need of life-saving medical services.

This achievement not only demonstrates the community’s unwavering support but also underscores the profound impact of collective efforts in advancing the mission of Phoenix Children’s, a press release read.

Sponsored by Desert Financial Credit Union, this year’s Concours in the Hills included more than 1,000 vehicles on display including a 2020 McLaren Speedtail, 2018 Bugatti Chiron, 1997 TVR Cerbera, 2023 Ferrari 812 Competizione and more.

Despite being rescheduled from its initial date of Feb. 3 due to unfavorable weather conditions, Concours in the Hills delivered a successful and memorable event later in the month.

Growth of the Concours

At its inception in 2014, the event featured 220 cars and attracted 3,000 spectators. This year, there were approximately 40,000 spectators to see the vehicles and five military and civilian helicopters and visit the 83 sponsor booths and food vendors.

The expansion has exceeded expectations and remains on an upward trajectory, the press release said.

Concours in the Hills Founder Peter Volny alongside retired race car drivers Derek Daly, Didier Theys and Harley Cluxton presented the opening ceremony, while Darin Roberge of Motorwërks Marketing served as the emcee for the day.

Concours Awards

There were five award categories at Concours in the Hills including Best Domestic, Best Import, Best Race Car, Best Car Club Display and Best of Show.

A 1955 210 Bel Air won Best Domestic, and a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT won Best Import. An Indy Race Car won Best Race Car, Fountain Hills Automobile Club won Best Car Club and a 2020 McLaren Speedtail won Best of Show.

“The outpouring of support from the community and sponsors for this event in its 10th year is truly remarkable,” Volny said. “As members of the automotive community, we are deeply privileged to make this significant impact on the lives of young patients at Phoenix Children’s.”

In its first year since Volny handed the reigns of this auto show charity event to Phoenix Children’s, Concours in the Hills has proven its significant impact with the help of its auxiliary group, PCH50. The group, also known as “The Fifty,” has a mission to harness the energy, enthusiasm and experience of 50 driven community leaders as the next generation of supporters of Phoenix Children’s, the press release said.

“This year marked a significant milestone as we celebrated the tenth anniversary of Concours in the Hills,” said Dr. Kris Birkeland, chair of Concours in The Hills and a member of PCH50.

“We are enthusiastic about the continued growth and enduring legacy that both Phoenix Children’s and the PCH50 will cultivate.

“This milestone not only reflects our past achievements but also ignites our excitement for the future endeavors and positive impact we aim to achieve.”
