Chabad of Fountain Hills will hold its annual Purim Gala Celebration Sunday, March 24, at 4 p.m. at the Chabad Edelman Jewish Center, 16830 E. Avenue of the Fountains.
The festival of Purim commemorates the divinely orchestrated salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day,” according to a press release.
The event is celebrated with Megillah readings, gifts of food, charity, feasting and merriment, the release said.
The theme of this year’s Gala is “Purim in Israel” and will feature gourmet Israeli foods (especially hamantaschen, the traditional Jewish triangular-shaped pastry), traditional reading of the Megillah (Book of Esther), a Western Wall photo booth, live Israeli music and age-appropriate activities for children. In addition, a surprise four-footed creature will be in attendance.
Costumes for all are encouraged, the release said.
A large silent auction will also be held at the event with opportunities for attendees to bid on quality items such as jewelry, art, gift certificates and household décor donated by local businesses and private individuals.
The cost to attend this event is $30 for adults and $18 for children. Event sponsorships are $180.
