Yeargain: Remember to vote this summer

Posted

This July, Fountain Hills has a hugely important event: the election of our mayor and our council.

History tells that most residents won’t vote. Many residents will be gone for the summer and may think their ballot will be forwarded by the post office (it won’t) or they will simply forget to vote. Others may think it is just the Arizona primary election and don’t realize that it is also our town election.

One could argue that this election on July 30 is our most important election because the results will directly impact life in Fountain Hills. The quality of our parks and neighborhoods, the management of our town resources, the concerns of our businesses, clubs and civic organizations, are issues that are uniquely addressed by the Fountain Hills Town Council.

BeBallotReady.vote, a website created by Maricopa County, is very helpful. Voters can see their own personalized dashboard, check their voter registration, learn about upcoming elections, learn how to have a ballot sent to a summer address, and even see a sample ballot. Spread the word. Remind your friends and neighbors about this upcoming summer election.

I will gladly vote to re-elect two candidates who have earned my respect for being civil and effective. Mayor Ginny Dickey is a non-partisan candidate who has been a fantastic supporter of our community and understands the path to success. Councilmember Peggy McMahon has proven her dedication and thoughtful leadership throughout the 23 years she has lived here. Each of them is willing to continue listening, learning and working for the good of the entire community, not just some partisan group. I will vote to keep Fountain Hills moving forward on the path to excellence.
