New Journey Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills hosts community food pack event

Volunteers invited to participate Feb. 29

Volunteers are invited to mark their calendars for the annual Fountain Hills Food Pack sponsored by New Journey Lutheran Church.

The event is Thursday, Feb. 29,  from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fountain Hills Community Center.

Over 200 volunteers are needed to pack dehydrated meals according to a press release from Susan Brahs, New Journey’s communications coordinator.

These meals will be distributed locally to the Extended Hands Food Bank of Fountain Hills, AZ Brainfood, which serves school children in the Valley, Native American Urban Ministry and Native American Connections, according to the press release.

Meals are also distributed internationally by the Food for Kidz organization which distributes meals wherever they are needed most for victims of disaster, wars or unrest, the press release said.

The Food for Kidz organization works with the following national/international groups to distribute food: Lifeline Christian Mission, Children of the Nations, Vision Honduras, Kids Fighting Hunger, Reach Now International and Impact Lives, according to the press release.

Organizers are especially looking for sponsors to help pay the cost of the bulk ingredients that go into the meals, according to Denny Rubenow, chair of the event.

Sponsor opportunities range from contributions of $500 to $3,000, which allows an organization to be designated a table or event host.

For more information, Denny Rubenow can be reached at fhfoodpack@njlc-fh.org or by calling New Journey Lutheran Church at 480-383-9193.

Donations can be sent by mail to New Journey Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 19652, Fountain Hills, AZ, 85269. Write a notation on the check indicating the funds are for “Food for Kidz.”

The Community Center is located at 13001 N. La Montana Drive in Fountain Hills.
