Tentative approval sets max cap

The Town Council will hold a public hearing and consider a resolution setting its tentative budget for the 2024/2025 Fiscal Year when it meets Tuesday, May 7.

The budget proposal totals $46.2 million for the year. This includes $25,824,816 for the General Fund, a 0.9% increase over the current fiscal year. The Capital Improvement budget totals $8.9 million including $950,000 in development fees and $1,652,500 in special revenue such as grant funding. The Streets Fund budget is $7,087,570.

Adoption of the tentative budget resolution has the effect of capping the budget for the coming year. When the final budget is considered in June it can be reduced but cannot be increased. Town budgets must be balanced by state law.

The council will also be considering a Zoning Ordinance amendment relating to “community residences” such as assisted living facilities or group homes.

The proposed amendment provides for re-inspection of premises in certain circumstances.

The council has a request to consider a preliminary plat to subdivide approximately three acres on the northeast corner of Palisades Boulevard and La Montana Drive. The request is to subdivide the property into four lots, three of which are currently developed.

Mayor Ginny Dickey has three proclamations she will present including the designation of Economic Development Week, May 6-10; National Animal Therapy Day, April 30; and International Firefighters’ Day, May 4.

The council will recognize Jill Keefe for her service on the Strategic Planning Advisory Commission.

Presentations to the council will include one from the Mayor’s Youth Council, and an update on the status of public works projects.

The council consent agenda, non-controversial items considered without discussion, includes the approval of a professional services employment agreement with Town Magistrate Robert Melton to continue to act a presiding judge for the Fountain Hills Municipal Court.

The Town Council meets Tuesday, May 7, at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public. Detailed information on agenda items is available for review at fountainhillsaz.gov under the “agendas” heading.
