Honor Flight Arizona plans spring season

Fountain Hills veterans invited to fly

Posted

Honor Flight Arizona launched its spring 2024 flying season Tuesday, March 26.

The first trip will include a veteran who served in three wars (WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War), along with four ROTC cadets from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott who will serve as guardians on the flight.

This is the eighth year that cadets have accompanied the Veterans, according to a press release.

“It’s a privilege to again connect veterans from as far back as WWII with future military leaders from Embry-Riddle,” said Robert Krug, vice president of Honor Flight Arizona. “Seeing them bond during the trip and bridge the generations is something very unique and special.”

This season’s trip dates are March 26-28, April 10-12, April 23-25, May 8-10 and May 21-23.

The flights will include veterans from all branches of service from the Korean War to the Vietnam War.

Since its inception, Honor Flight Arizona has flown nearly 3,000 WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Washington, D.C., to see their respective memorials, the press release said.

Honor Flight Arizona took its first flight with 11 WWII Veterans in November 2009.

Trips have also included more than 2,100 guardians who assist the veterans along the way. Veterans from WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War are invited to sign up for their free Honor Flight online at honorflightaz.org/veterans.

Honor Flight Arizona is part of the nationwide Honor Flight Network. Both are 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that are funded by private donations and corporate support.

Honor Flight Arizona is the northern/central Arizona chapter of Honor Flight Network (HFN).

HFN is a national network that flies WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War Veterans to their memorials in Washington, D.C.

Its mission is to fly as many veterans as possible from Phoenix, Ariz., to Washington, D.C. at no cost. Find out more online at honorflightaz.org or on social media.
