Freedom of speech

Posted

Our governor should require our state representatives to take a civic test before being sworn into office, just like the children of Arizona are now required to do by a law he enacted soon after taking office.

It seems Mr. Kavanagh, an elected Arizona state senator, does not know that the citizens of the United States have more than the one right of possession of firearms.

Let me remind you of what you have forgotten Mr. Kavanagh: Freedom of speech is the right to communicate one’s opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship.

If you read our local paper every week you would know many of our residents exclaim so- called “facts” that have no resemblance to the truth or even contain any verifiable facts.

So, get over it.

Ginny Dickey and Henry Leger are first and foremost citizens of the United States and freely expressing their opinions at a Town Council meeting, or anywhere else, requires no apology!

You have the right to disagree with Ms. Dickey and Mr. Leger’s comments, Mr. Kavanagh. You, sir, have no right to insist on an apology, but Ms. Dickey and Mr. Leger do!
