New date added in Fountain Hills for presentation about Lucille Ball

‘Triumphs and Tragedies’ in December

With a full house for the first presentation, the Fountain Hills Library will host a second presentation by Fountain Hills resident Darla Roberts on the life of the well-known movie and TV star, Lucille Ball.

The second presentation will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the Fountain Hills Library Lounge. Registration opens Nov. 19 and attendees must register to attend.

Known as “Queen of the B-Movies,” “Tessie Technicolor” and “America’s Favorite Redhead,” Lucille Ball holds a fond place in the memory of many Americans, says Roberts. The “I Love Lucy” TV show plays in syndication to this day.

The presentation, entitled “Lucille Ball: Triumphs and Tragedies,” will feature little-known facts about Ball’s childhood, a tragic family accident, the severe disease she was diagnosed with as a teenager and other facts about her upbringing and family, which affected her for the rest of her life.

The 50-minute presentation traces her career from hat model, Broadway chorus member, Hollywood movie ingenue, radio star, television star and TV studio chief.

Roberts will bring her collection of Lucille Ball memorabilia for the audience to examine, including an autographed photo of the entire cast of the “I Love Lucy” show.

Registration can be made by visiting mcldaz.org/en-US/fountain-hills/.
