Fountain Hills Sister Cities recently launched a successful fundraiser to supply healthy staple food packages to the most vulnerable elderly in the sister city of Ataco, El Salvador.
Enrique Melendez, Honorary Consul Emeritus to El Salvador, recently hosted his brother Carlos Melendez in Fountain Hills, who, upon return to his home country, will personally deliver a check for $8,000 from Fountain Hills Sister Cities to the City of Ataco Mayor Oscar Gomez, according to a press release.
Supplies are sourced locally and roughly 500 packages of food are planned to arrive and be distributed throughout the community.
In other matters, Fountain Hills Sister Cities is currently researching seasonal agriculture and labor job opportunities in Arizona and would like to gift a trash hauling vehicle to the City of Ataco.
