Thanks to the Town of Fountain Hills and the Fountain Hills Friends of the Library (FHFL), there are many fewer boxes of tax returns, medical bills and other assorted records and files piling up in local garages, a press release said about the recent shredding event in Fountain Hills.

Over 100 townsfolk carted their shreddable papers to the Fountain Hills High School parking lot Saturday, April 20, where volunteers collected and emptied all the boxes of papers into a portable shredding truck.

The volunteers were members of the FHFL board and members of the Fountain Hills High School Key Club.

The Key Club was recruited by Katelyn Smout, a teen representative on the FHFL board and included Emerson Uphoff, Brooke Lyons, Katie Hampton and Shannon Breen.

The Key Club members added lots of enthusiasm and energy throughout the morning.

FHFL thanks town staff members Bo Larson, Steve Bartlett, Justin Welty and Marc Brewer for their contributions in publicizing the event and setting up the site.

This was the first time the event was held at the high school and according to FHFL, the event was highly successful, adding that participants were patient despite the long line and late morning heat.

Community members were generous as the FHFL members collected donations that helped defray the cost of the event.

Any excess donations will go to the Friends of the Library for use on future Library needs and community programs.
