Fountain Hills Republican Club hears from Sheridan, Schweikert

Sheridan discusses first 100 days in office

Posted

The Fountain Hills Republican Club members and guests recently gathered in the Community Center to hear from Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan and Congressman David Schweikert.

According to club spokesperson, Chris Brant, Schweikert discussed the country’s debt.

“The Trump Administration has some promises to keep such as no taxing on tips or social security but America’s economy is going to have to really boom to get a handle on (the) country’s large deficit,” Brant said. “Perhaps it’s time for all of us to start doing our bit to work towards the new ‘Golden Age.’”

According to Brant, Sheridan gave a “very positive” update on his first 100 hundred days in office.

Since taking office, Sheridan began making strategic visits to various locations and departments within the county to build trust and transparency, Brant said.

“In doing so, he started rebuilding trust and transparency in his office that had been missing for the last number of years,” Brant said, adding that “a large number” of applicants for positions in both the Sheriff’s Department and the County Prison System have been received.

Sheridan is eager to clamp down on the illegal use of drugs in the jails and increase the size of the Sheriff’s Posse of volunteers, wrote Brant.

At the meeting, members of the town council and the school board requested more support in attending the weekly meetings, Brant said.
