Fountain Hills Community Foundation elects directors

The Fountain Hills Community Foundation elected a new slate of board directors at its annual meeting Thursday, Oct. 3, at Eagle Mountain Country Club.

President Dori Wittrig was elected to another two-year term along with directors Nicole Perkins, Bernie Hoenle, Anita Glenister, Siobhan Doherty and Mark Dalton.

Three new directors were added to the board including Julie Ewald, Tara LaMar and Dr. Grant Smith.

Ewald holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Cincinnati and has a background in management.

She built a career at Mayo Clinic where she focused on healthcare medical education. She is past president of the Four Peaks Rotary Club in Fountain Hills and serves on several committees for Rotary District 5495.

She also participates in the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Health Services Industry Stakeholders group and the Fountain Hills Toastmasters.

LaMar is a local residential real estate agent who is also an active volunteer with the Fountain Hills Unified School District, Southwest Wildlife Conservation and the Fountain Hills American Legion Auxiliary.

She and her husband Brady have raised two children in Fountain Hills and enjoy traveling, live music and attending community events.

Smith has owned Smith Chiropractic in Fountain Hills for more than 28 years.

He is a triathlete and has competed in more than 100 triathlons and is also a grand master in martial arts, holding an eight Dan Black Belt in Hapkido and a ninth Dan in the World Taekwondo Federation of the art of Taekwondo.

He and his wife Tralonie own Fountain Hills Martial Arts and Warrior Camp, a specialized training camp for kids ages 10-18 which is held in Northern Arizona every year.

He and Tralonie have raised two daughters in Fountain Hills.

Directors William Pape, Sandi McGee, Steve Hoffman, Helen Whatmough and Theresa Conti will be up for re-election in 2025.

Debbie Clason and Myhr retired from the board and were recognized for their contributions to the FHCF board during their terms of service.

Lifetime Flynn Society members Siobhan Doherty, Jennifer and Rob Flick, Elizabeth Matej-Horchem and Bogumil Horchem were awarded the Heart Award in recognition of their contributions to the Foundation.

The annual meeting immediately followed the Gifting Ceremony, at which 22 local organizations received grants totaling slightly more than $66,000.

Recipients included Bob’s Bikes, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale McKee Branch, Encore for More, Extended Hands Food Bank, Fountain Hills Friends of the Library, Golden Eagle Education Foundation, Fountain Hills Lions Club, Fountain Hills Little League, Fountain Hills Middle School Second Chance, Fountain Hills Parent Teacher Organization, Fountain Hills Protect Our Youth Coalition, Fountain Hills High School Athletic Boosters, Fountain Hills High School Band Boosters, Fountain Hills Falcon Fiesta, Foster Your Future, Fountain Hills Theater, Junior Achievement, Matthew Community -Ascension Church, Reigning Grace Ranch, SAWS Southwest, Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Tender Little Hearts Mini Tales Equine Therapy.

The Fountain Hills Community Foundation assists with additional funding for educational, cultural and humanitarian nonprofit organizations operating within Fountain Hills and the surrounding community.

The organization, originally known as the Sunridge Foundation, was formed in 1995. To date, it has provided more than $1.5 million in financial support for local nonprofits.
