The Fountain Hills High School tennis team has kicked off the season with its first two matches.

On Feb. 28, the Falcons played against American Leadership Gilbert and on March 7 the team played Arizona College Prep.

The next match for Fountain Hills is on March 19 against Coronado. The Falcons will host the meet at Golden Eagle Park starting at 3:30 p.m.

ALA Gilbert

Due to not having a full team to compete, Fountain Hills did not receive a school score in last week’s outings but individual results were still recorded.

For singles play on the boys’ team, Casey Timms lost his match 6-1, 6-0. Kyle Richardson fell to his opponent 6-3, 6-3. Andrei Urda fell behind 6-0, 6-2 and Blake Anderson lost 6-1, 6-3.

In the doubles event Timms and Urda succumbed to their opponent by a final score of 8-4 and Anderson and Richardson lost by a score of 8-3.

Over to the girls’ singles event, Rori Wilson lost 6-1, 6-0. Courtney Flynn fell 6-0, 6-0. Elise Quan lost 6-3, 6-0 and Penny Enterline lost 6-1, 6-0.

In the doubles event, Wilson and Flynn lost 8-0 and Quan/Enterline lost 8-0.

AZ College Prep

In the boys’ singles event, Richardson lost 6-1, 6-0. Timms also fell to his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Urda lost 6-1, 6-1 and Blake Anderson lost 6-0, 6-0.

Timms and Urda lost their doubles match 8-0 and Anderson and Richardson fell behind by a final score of 8-2.

In the girls’ singles competition, Wilson lost 6-1, 6-1. Courtney Flynn fell behind 7-6, 6-0 and Enterline fell 6-0, 6-1.

Wilson and Fylnn played doubles and lost to their opponent by a score of 8-1.

Despite the final scores, head coach Ted Trippett said he is happy with the individual progress he is seeing.

“Although our players were unable to win many games against our opponents, it was good to see the improvements they've made since the last competitive season,” Trippett said. “In our first match, Kyle Richardson played hard to go down 3-6, 3-6 at the number two spot as the last match of the day. In our second match, Courtney Flynn came out strong at the number two spot and took the first set to a tiebreaker, but ultimately lost the match 6-7(8), 0-6,” Trippett said.
