Swim making a splash

Members of the Fountain Hills High School swim team continued shaving seconds off their personal records in various events during the third meet of their freshmen season.

On Oct. 6 the aquatic Falcons took part in the Thunder Pitchfork Invitational. Out of 25 teams that participated in the meet, FHHS placed 19th.

The next swim meet is Thursday Oct. 18, though a location was not available as of press time.

Head coach Patty Schultz said she is really pleased with the progress the swim team is making.

“The Falcon swim team swam at ASU’s Mona Plummer Pool Saturday, Oct. 6,” Schultz said. “The team had amazing results and are continuing to improve in all areas of their events. I am so proud to coach them and to see their personal improvements.”

More swimmers on the team are qualifying for the state meet, sometimes in multiple events.

“In the women’s 400 free relay, our team qualified with a provisional time for state. The team consisted of Kennedy Muhs, Grace Clark, Erin Morley and Deven Meyers,” Schultz said. “The lead-off leg, Kennedy, also qualified for state in the 100 free with a fast time of 57.89.”

Schultz is also impressed with the progress the male swimmers are making.

“In the breaststroke both Vinnie Caggiula and Scott Sorensen cut eight and 13 seconds off their times, respectively,” Schultz said. “The boys are really improving at fast rates. It shows the dedication and hard work they are putting in at practice is really paying off at the meets. They are learning how to swim the races and their stroke form is improving.”
