Spooner & Shaft offers physicals

Posted

On Thursday, May 16, local physical therapy clinic Spooner & Shaft will hold an event for Fountain Hills Unified School District athletes who want to complete their AIA-required physical for the next school year while giving back to the FHUSD athletics program. This event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.

Athletes will need to bring their completed AIA documents when they come for their physical along with $30 in either cash or check.

“It is all donated back to the high school,” Christy Shaft, co-owner and Clinic director, explained. “So yes, it is $30, but you would have to pay a $20 or $30 copay anyway, so why not put that money back into the school?”

Shaft also believes that holding the fundraiser right before summer is the perfect time for families.

“Kids have to have their physicals to play sports and it always seems to come down to the wire,” Shaft said. “So this is a way that kids can get their physical done before the school year is out because, once it is, there’s the chaos of summer and all of a sudden school creeps up on you.”

Spooner & Shaft has been involved with FHUSD since opening in 1995 and has hosted these fundraisers since 1996.

“Since that time I have worked as the athletic trainer during the football games during the fall, and we also did a bumps and bruises clinics on Monday’s for any athletes,” Shaft said. “We have been involved in the physicals for over 23 years now.”

Along with the employees from Spooner & Shaft, who will be volunteering their time on May 16, doctors from OrthoArizona and 4C medical group will also be on site to help out.

For any questions, call FHUSD Athletic Director, Willie Dudley at 480-664-5539.
