Despite a tough loss, the Fountain Hills High School Girls Basketball team put up a strong battle in last week’s game.
The Lady Falcons hosted the American Leadership Academy Gilbert team for a game on Jan. 22. FHHS lost the game 75-49.
Fountain Hills has two more games this week before the regular season wraps up. The first game was yesterday, Jan. 29, against Gilbert Christian.
Their next game is tomorrow, Jan. 31, against Coronado. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. and will also be Senior Night for the Lady Falcons.
Going into Jan. 22’s game, head coach Mandy Baca knew the team was in for a tough game.
“ALA is undefeated, I think, this year,” Baca said. “So we knew they were going to be tough, and they lived up to the hype.”
Despite what the scoreboard showed, Baca was actually proud of what her team accomplished in the game.
“When you look at the stats, we actually didn’t play too bad,” Baca said. “So we played better against a better team, and I am proud of that and the effort the team put in.”
Baca pointed out that the Lady Falcons never stopped battling even when the odds were stacked higher and higher against them.
“I liked the fact that we didn’t give up,” Baca said. “In the second quarter we got beat 9-22 but the third quarter we only lost 15-18. So they didn’t give up, they used the opportunity to be better.”
Without any games the rest of the week the Lady Falcons were able lead up the week before the end of the season with a day of practice dedicated for offense and a day for defense.
